(Don’t) Look Back in Anger
Let’s be real: the world is a messed up place right now.
That makes it really hard to be creative.
The oppression of colonialism and capitalism, and the rise of fascism, impact us in a lot of different ways.
It’’s normal to be struggling.
It’s also okay to be angry about that.
In my experience as a creative coach and a workshop facilitator, I have found time and time again that our anger about the state of the world, and the way we have to live in it, is often in the way of us being creative.
And I’m not just talking about our lack of time, and our general exhaustion from having to work so hard to make a living that we burn ourselves out in the process - although those are obviously a huge barrier to entry.
I’m talking about the way we feel about it.
Unprocessed anger is often the first creative block we have to work through, in order to get in touch with our inner artist.
And I’m not saying, “ignore everything that’s happening in the world so you can be creative”.
I’m saying, make space for your anger and disillusion, and let that become the fuel you need to create.
I’m saying, find ways to build a creative practice that doesn’t burn out out more than this world already does.
The systems we live in are broken.
You are not broken for trying to survive inside them.
Acknowledging this is an important step on your creative healing journey.
If this sounds like the type of creative support you’re looking for, feel free to check out my upcoming course on Unlocking Creative Blocks starting January 13th, or book a free support call to talk about where you want to get to, and how I could help.
With big feelings, always,
