My background in TV & storytelling
My name is Laurie Farrugia, and I’m a neurodivergent TV Story Producer
I love empowering creatives and storytellers, and made a career out of it long before I started practicing as a coach for neurodivergent creatives, writers and storytellers.
Since graduating from the Peter Stark Producing Program at USC in Los Angeles in 2011, I have fifteen years of experience in TV drama & comedy development and story producing.
My TV career started in the American TV industry in Los Angeles where I worked across drama and comedy, production companies and writers’ rooms — all the way to London, where I’ve worked in Scripted Development at Carnival Films, SunnyMarch, and BBC Studios Comedy.
Over the years, I’ve worked with dozens of new and experienced writers and performers, including many neurodivergent and queer voices.
I have spent much of my career not only helping writers tell stories authentic to the characters living inside of them, but also supporting talent to make sure they have everything they need to make the best possible version of the show they want to make.
Alongside my work as a coach for neurodivergent creatives, storytellers and writers, I’m still freelancing in TV for events, festivals, projects, writers, and talent near and dear to my heart.
In 2024, while working for BBC Studios Comedy, I story produced a major comedy drama for BBC One called Death Valley, written by the amazing, talented and BAFTA-nominated Paul Doolan, with iconic, BAFTA winning Timothy Spall in the lead role of John Chapel, and the phenomenal Gwyneth Keyworth as disarming, brilliant Janie Mallowan.
It’s a very special show and I feel incredibly lucky to have worked with the best group of people, making a TV show about two lonely people whose unexpected friendship transforms their lives.
