What the heck is coaching anyways?

What happens during a coaching session?

This will depend on a variety of things including the person I’m working with, their needs, and where they’re at on their journey. But generally we would talk about where you are, where you want to get to, why it’s important, and how we can get you there.

This involves figuring out what the obstacles are, how we can work through them, and what might help, whether it’s discussion or tools, or a mix of both.

How do I know if I’m ready for coaching?

The desire to make a change is the first step. But being committed to putting in the work is equally as important.

The sessions will do so much to start the transformation of your emotional landscape, AND you still have to put in most of the work with each incremental shift that will eventually add up to big changes.

Keep showing up for yourself. That’s where the magic really is.

It’s not a question but…coaching isn’t cheap.

In the world that we live in, I know that a lot of people might not be able to afford 1:1 coaching. If I could offer my services for free and still make a living, I honestly would. But a girl has got to live.

The 1:1 coaching fees are also an investment in yourself. That’s how I see my own coaching sessions (yes, even coaches need coaching too 😂). It’s a way to commit to showing up and doing the work, even when it’s hard.

All my 1:1 coaching pathways are on a sliding scale so you can pay what works for your income, and I also offer payments plans.

I’m also organising community events with Creatives Club in person and online that are more affordable, and I always protect a few low income tickets at a discounted rate, too.

Can’t I do this myself or with my friends?

You absolutely can. Friends and community are such a powerful way to connect to ourselves, and to keep ourselves motivated and accountable. If we work 1:1 , I will still be encouraging you to find your creative community if haven’t already done so.

AND, sometimes when we’re trying to make a change in our lives, especially our internal landscape, there is a huge amount of value in finding a space where you can bring all of yourself as you are. 1:1 coaching will give you dedicated time and support to figure out what you want and what’s in your way. And the act of committing to the journey and stepping into that space is a BIG way to back yourself.

Will you give me advice and answers?

In short: no. Only YOU know what’s best for you. I will be there to help you find your own answers - and I promise, they’re already inside you. We just have to create the space and safety for you to connect to them.

How is coaching different from therapy?

A lot of therapy (psychodynamic) is about understanding and processing how your past impacts your present. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy does focus on the present, but it’s mainly dealing with shifting negative thoughts and behavioural patterns. Coaching is about using the present to build the future you want. It’s about self-actualisation.

Of course past patterns and familiar emotions will show up, but the focus will be on figuring out how you’d like to shift them and what you need to do this so they stop getting in the way of your goals, rather than working out why they’re here in the first place.

What if I realise I need more than coaching and therapy would be better for me?

My ultimate goal is your well-being. If it becomes clear that you might need more specialised or extensive support than I can offer, especially mental health wise, we will discuss this together and I will help you find you the right person. I may not be the best person to help and that is okay.
